General Council - 1853


The General Council pertaining to the Welsh Church was held in the White Lion Inn, Merthyr, on the 3rd of this month. It was begun by singing a hymn followed by a prayer by Elder T. Jeremy. Then President Phillips addressed the Council, requesting a share in the prayers of this brethren so that he would be able to carry the work of the meeting forward according to the wish of God. After he and Brothers Davis and Jones taught important principles to the officers, the following decisions were made:
President Phillips proposed that Elder Abednego Jones (who intends to go to Zion soon) be released from the presidency of the Llanelli District on the 17th of this month; then, that Dewi Elfed Jones take his place and Alfred Clark be his first counselor. Motion carried.
He proposed that Elder Daniel Daniels, from the Salt Lake Valley, be Pastor of the Districts of Cardigan, South Pembroke and North Pembroke. Motion carried.
He proposed that Elder Thomas Jeremy, from the Salt Lake Valley, be Pastor of the districts of West Glamorgan, Llanelli and Carmarthen. Motion carried.
Also it was decided that Elder Dan Jones, from the Salt Lake Valley, be second counselor to President Phillips, in place of T. Pugh, and also to preside over the East Glamorgan District. Motion carried.
Bro. Daniels closed the meeting with prayer and the majority of the officers left after getting their fill of food and of the Holy Ghost.
